It’s been another buzzing week in Honeybees Class — full of curiosity, discovery, and a little bit of raincloud magic!

This week, we’ve been on a mission to learn all about safety and the important people who help keep our community secure. We’ve been diving into the role of The Police, it sparked thoughtful conversations about kindness, rules, and how brave officers work hard every day to protect us. We’ve talked about what to do if we ever feel unsure around strangers, playing fun games to remember how to stay safe while still being friendly and polite. We’re absolutely thrilled that real-life police officers will be visiting us next week — we can’t wait to meet them, ask our burning questions, and maybe even peek inside a police car! When we weren’t learning about safety, we were busy being little meteorologists! With the skies opening up this week, we took the opportunity to explore the weather — especially all that rain! We created our very own “rain cloud in a jar” using shaving foam, water, and blue food colouring.

As the “cloud” became heavy with “water”, we watched in awe as our mini storm released drops into the jar — just like real rain! In literacy, we’ve fallen in love with the classic tale Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. The children have loved lifting the flaps (even when the lion was too fierce and the monkey too mischievous!) which led us perfectly into maths, where we turned each zoo animal’s box into a hands-on investigation. Which toys fit inside? Why does the elephant need a bigger box?

Through sorting, comparing sizes, and problem-solving, we’ve been building our understanding of space, capacity, and measurement — all while imagining what pet we’d ask the zoo to send us! Want to keep the learning buzzing at home this weekend?

Here are some fun and simple ideas to continue the adventure: Community Helpers Hunt: Take a walk or drive around your neighbourhood and see how many people helping the community you can spot — police officers, postal workers, firefighters, or even bin collectors. Talk about how each one keeps us safe and happy. Weather Watchers: Create a simple weather chart and let your child record each day’s weather with drawings or stickers. Talk about patterns — does rain usually come before or after sunshine? Make a paper umbrella and decorate it with raindrop patterns!DIY Rain Cloud Jar at Home: Re-create our science experiment! All you need is a jar, water, shaving foam or cotton wool, and blue food colouring.

Add drops slowly and watch the “rain” fall. Perfect for sparking scientific chat!Dear Zoo Story Fun: Retell Dear Zoo using toys or drawings. Ask: “What animal would YOU write to the zoo for?” Then, build a “perfect pet box” using a shoebox — is it tall for a giraffe or wide for a hippo? Compare sizes and talk about why different animals need different spaces.Box

Challenge: Gather a few different-sized boxes (cereal, tissue, delivery boxes) and let your child explore which household items fit where. Add challenge words like inside, underneath, beside, full, empty to build spatial vocabulary.

Keep sharing your home adventures — we can’t wait to hear all about them on Monday!
