Honeybees get busy becoming miniature architects!
What a wonderfully busy and creative week it's been in our classroom! We've been buzzing with activity, from continuing our adventures in classic tales to becoming miniature architects.
Our journey through the enchanted forest with Little Red Riding Hood continued to captivate us this week. The children enjoyed delving deeper into the story, discussing the characters' feelings, and even thinking about the important lessons the tale teaches us. We practised retelling the narrative, using props and our imaginations to bring the forest and Grandma's cottage to life, with plenty of brave little Red Riding Hoods and even a few cunning wolves!
Then, our imaginations truly set sail as we explored the lively and rhythmic rhyme, "A Sailor Went to Sea." We had so much fun singing along, performing actions, and discovering all the wonderful things the sailor might have seen – from fish to mermaids, and perhaps even a pirate or two! It was a fantastic way to engage with new vocabulary and enjoy the playful sounds of language.
One of the most heartwarming highlights of our week was sharing photos of our families and homes. It was truly special to see glimpses into everyone's lives outside of school, sparking wonderful conversations about what makes each home unique and special. We loved hearing about favourite rooms, garden adventures, and the people who make our houses feel like home.
Inspired by these beautiful discussions, we then became busy little builders! We embarked on an exciting junk modelling project, creating our very own houses. This was a brilliant opportunity to explore different joining methods – taping, gluing, slotting, and connecting various recycled materials to construct structures of all shapes and sizes. The children showed incredible ingenuity and problem-solving skills as they designed and built their miniature homes, from cosy cottages to towering flats!
