Copper Beech visit the Houses of Parliament
Copper Beech braved the cold weather for a trip around the Houses of Parliament. The very early start allowed the children to have a walk around the Houses and along the river Thames so they could see all the statues around the area. This included Richard III and Oliver Cromwell two very important men who parliament what it is today. We then enjoyed a very detailed tour around both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The children even got to stand in the benches. They learnt about the parliamentary process and how MP's vote and went into the "NO" room. This was discussed further with a workshop in the Education Centre, where they discovered how bills were put together and passed. They even enjoyed their own debate with cheers and heckling. The final part of the trip was a walk to see 10 Downing street and all the parliamentary buildings in the area including the Treasury, the Foreign Office and the Commonwealth office. Many thanks to Mrs Reece for organising a wonderful trip!
