A Buzz of Discovery: This Week with the Honey Bees!
What a wonderfully busy and explorative week we’ve had in the Honey Bees hive! Our little learners have been buzzing with excitement, all centred around a fascinating little word: OVER.
Our journey began with our curious friend, Concept Cat, who helped us unravel the mystery of what ‘over’ truly means. We practised reaching over tables, stepping over small obstacles, and even watched as a soft scarf floated over our heads. This concept truly came to life during our joyful rhyme time, where we revisited the classic ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’. The cow didn’t just jump near or by the moon; with great gusto, we all cheered as she made that spectacular jump over the moon!
The word ‘over’ began to pop up everywhere! We became word detectives during our story session with ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, listening intently for that special term as the family bravely went over the swirling, whirling snowstorm.
Our creativity soared beyond the clouds this week in our DT sessions, where we channelled our inner artists, inspired by the magnificent assemblages of Louise Nevelson. We became master builders, combining the gentle curves of natural wooden forms with the sharp, exciting angles of man-made shapes. It was a true workout for our fine motor skills as we carefully selected, picked up, stacked, and balanced our small materials. Most importantly, we built something even more valuable than our sculptures: resilience. When a tower wobbled, we took a breath and tried again, learning that the journey of creating is just as important as the finished masterpiece.
And the learning didn’t stop there! In our energising PE session with Wayne, we were plunged into a sensory delight! With reaction speeds faster than lightning, the children darted across their space to hit the correct coloured light. It was a fantastic test of coordination, listening, and quick thinking, all accompanied by plenty of laughter and cheers.
A little note for our wonderful grown-ups: Our online learning journal, Tapestry, is now up and running! This is your special window into all these magical moments, so please do keep an eye on it for more photos and detailed updates of your child’s adventures.
Finally, we love to see how the learning continues at home. If you spot your child exploring the concept of ‘over’ – perhaps building a bridge for their toys to go under and over, or creating their own masterpiece – please do share those magical moments with us. Those connections between home and school make our Hive stronger than ever!
As the weather is turning colder, please ensure your child comes to preschool dressed warmly. Hats, scarves, gloves, and a warm coat will help keep them comfortable during outdoor play and activities. Thank you for your support in keeping everyone cozy and happy!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend, The Honey Bees Team 🐝
