The Friday Focus curriculum offers both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupils’ increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase. It builds on the skills that pupils have started to acquire to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety, including online. Its aim is to introduce pupils to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.

The Friday Focus is based around 6 key subject areas that focus on extending the skills they have learnt within the curriculum progression, deepening their understanding and extending these to encourage them to enquire, think rigorously and creatively and to use their imagination.

Each subject strand builds on a set of strategies and wider skills. Each Focus works closely with the community and tries to ‘step beyond the classroom’. The children receive a greater understanding of who they are within their community. The focus areas target learning in Online safety, emotional wellbeing, growth-mindset, understanding and contributing to global goals, financial awareness, environmental awareness and Oracy.

When a child leaves Northiam C of E Primary School, they take with them a journey that has allowed them to grow and develop, understanding their individual interests in the world, and their impact and importance to the community and wider world. Their journey will have provided them with a range of experiences that broaden their vocabulary and develop their confidence, ready to step into their secondary education phase and the wider world beyond.

Our vision is to help each child flourish into a caring, confident and resilient young person who has a life-long love of learning. We will do this by upholding high aspirations through our innovative and inspiring approach to teaching and learning.

“I came that they may have and enjoy life and have it abundance, to the full, till it overflows” John 10:10
