Years 5 and 6
Class Teacher: Mr. Philip Cameron.
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Julie Tebbutt
Welcome to Term 3!
Mr Cameron and Mrs Tebbutt are excited to be working with your children as they continue on their educational journey.
Our learning journey this term will be the Victorians. We will be looking at the History of them- where they fit into our time line and what came before and after and then the Geographical side- where they explored and what countries England owned. We will also look at what life was like as a Victorian. How the rich differed from the poor. Were there similarities between life now and then? And, when might we prefer to live.
We will aim to give pupils spellings every week. These will be worked on in class and tested the following week. Please look at these with your child and ensure they know how to spell them and can use them in context.
We have created another homework grid for the term. Please send in work as it is completed- either in the homework books provided or pictures/ models of work.
Year 6 children will have additional homework with tasks to complete to support their preparation for SATs.
We are hugely passionate about reading and believe it supports every aspect of your child’s education, which is why we are setting the challenge of at least 5 reads per week (signed off by an adult in their reading record) and reading at least 3 of the ten books on the Spring Term Reading challenge.
m we’re continuing with Ancient Mayan civilisation. We will be focussing particularly on Geography: where the Mayans lived, how they lived in relation to others and what were their modes/ links of transport.
We will also be carrying on with the fantastic Book- Uncle Montague’s tales of terror and using it to influence some wonderful pieces of writing.
For information about curriculum coverage and events, please see the linked PDF document.
Homework is set weekly; the children will have their weekly spellings and maths task stuck in their homework books which must come into school every Tuesday.
They will be returned to the children on Friday ready for them to learn their new spellings. Children will be tested on their learnt spellings on a Friday.
All the children have access to T.T Rock stars and should be aiming to compete as regularly as possible with the program and others online as much as possible in and out of school.
We are hugely passionate about reading and believe it supports almost every aspect of your child’s education, which is why we are setting the challenge of at least 5 reads per week (signed off by an adult in their reading record) and reading at least 5 of the ten books on the Summer Term Reading challenge. If your child does not like reading at the moment please come and talk to us and we will see what we can do to try and help. Often it’s just a case of them not having found the right book yet).
