20.6.22

In maths this week, we identifying 2d and 3d shapes.

This week in literacy, the children will be planning, writing and editing their own short stories.

In Geography, the children will be identifying the major cities in the UK and which cities are growing the fastest.

In Science, the children will be investigating why plants have roots.

In PE, the children will be learning the rules of rounders.

In Re, the children will be learning about the story of ‘Moses’

13.06.22

In maths this week, we are now going to be learning about lines of symmetry.

This week in literacy, the children are going to be describing derelict settings and planning their own short stories.

In Geography, the children will be using maps to identify all the ‘Mega cities’ in the world.

In Science, the children will be setting up an investigation to see what happens to plants when they do not get light.

PE this term is on a Wednesday. Children will have an opportunity to practice the sports day events.

In Re, the children will be learning about the story of ‘Noah’.

Term 5

16.5.22

In maths this week, we are going to be answer questions about duration of time and reading timetables.

This week in literacy, the children will be finding the key features of a persuasive argument and planning to write their own.

In History this week, the children will be explaining why people build monuments.

In Science, the children will be learning about a variety of different food chains.

PE this term will be on a Thursday and we will be focusing on running for distance this week.

In RE the children will be learning about ‘The Lords Prayer’ and how this relates to ‘The Kingdom of God’.

In Computing, the children are learning about computational thinking and we will be learning how to decode computer programmes.

In maths this week, we are going to be converting between analogue and digital time and solving time word problems.

This week in literacy, the children will have an opportunity to plan and write their own instructions for making Bronze age weapons and tools.

In History this week, the children will be explaining possible reasons for the Stone Monument at Merrivale.

In Science the children will be learning more about how the digestive system works and drawing and labelling their own versions

PE this term will be on a Thursday and this term we are learning athletics.

In RE the children will be learning about ‘The Lords Prayer’ and how this relates to ‘The Kingdom of God’.

In Computing, the children are learning about computational thinking and we will be learning how to decode computer programmes.

In maths we will be learning about reading analogue and digital clocks and solving time problems.

This week in literacy, we will be introducing the children to ‘The Boy With The Bronze Axe’ and identifying key features of instructional texts.

In History this week, the children will be exploring why the Stone Age finished and how we moved into the Bronze Age.

In Science we will be investigating the digestive system.

PE this term will be on a Thursday and this term we are learning athletics.

In RE our new topic for term 5 is ‘ What do Christians mean when they talk about the Kingdom of God?’

Term 4

27.03.22

In maths this week Year 3 are going to be exploring capacity and Year 4 are going to be recognising and counting in hundredths.

This week in literacy we are going to planning, writing and editing our own Varjak Paw stories.

In Art this week, we are going to further explore Cave Paintings and create our own.

In Science we will be investigating how to make our own shadows.

PE this week, we have an introduction into tennis on Thursday.

In RE, the children are going to learning the Easter story and retelling it in their own words.

21.03.22

In maths this week we are going to recognise the relationships between tenths and decimals before moving onto measuring mass.

This week in literacy the children are going to be describing a setting and a character, story mapping our own story before using drama to retell the story.

In Art this week, we are going to be exploring Anglo Saxon art work and creating our own.

In Science we will be investigating how to make our own shadows.

PE this week is our final cricket session and will be on Thursday.

In RE, the children are going to learning the Easter story and retelling it in their own words.

In maths this week we are going to be investigating area and perimeter.

This week in literacy we are finishing ‘Varjak Paw’ and will be writing our own narrative from a character’s point of view.

In Geography this week, we are going to be looking at the country Naples and how they are living more sustainably.

In Science we will be investigating how to make our own shadows.

PE this week is going to be dance and will be on Thursday afternoon.

In RE the children are going to learning the Easter story.

In music, we are going to continue with our Rock and Roll theme and learn the hand jive.

In maths this week we are going to be investigating perimeter.

This week in literacy we are going to be inferring how a character is feeling and writing diary entries in role as that character.

In Geography this week, we are going to be investigating ways in which Britain are trying to live more sustainably.

In Science we will be investigating different light sources and how we can form shadows.

PE this week is going to be dance and will be on Thursday afternoon.

In RE the children are going to learning more about the cross and how it is seen as a symbol of love.

In maths this week we are going to be measuring length before we move onto measuring perimeter.

This week in literacy we are going story mapping, planning, writing and editing our letters written in role as Varjak Paw.

In Geography this week, we are going to be looking at how sustainable Northiam Primary School currently is and making suggestions how we can improve the school’s sustainability.

In Science we will be introducing our new topic about light.

PE this week is going to be dance and will be on Thursday afternoon.

In RE the children are going to be learning about Christianity ‘Is the Cross a symbol of Sacrifice?’

Welcome back.

In maths this week we are going to be adding and subtracting fractions, before we move onto measuring length.

This week in literacy we are going to be finding key features of letters before we write our own in the role of Varjak Paw.

In Geography this week, we are going to be introducing our sustainability topic.

In Science we will be introducing our new topic about light.

PE this term will be on a Thursday and the children will be learning Tennis.

In RE the children are going to be learning about Christianity ‘Is the Cross a symbol of Sacrifice?’

Term 3

Week Commencing 24/01/22

In maths this week we are recognising equivalent fractions.

In literacy this week, we are looking at key features of newspaper reports and how to plan a newspaper report.

For our Stone Age topic, we are going to be looking at what life was like living in Britain. We will be investigating Anglo Saxon dwellings such as summer and winter camps.

In Science we are going to make a prediction about whether magnets will attract or repel each other depending on which poles are facing each other.

PE this term will be on a Thursday and the children will be carrying on with their cricket lessons.

In RE the children will be describing how Karma impacts a Hindu’s life.

We will also be covering computing this week, where we will continue to learn about online safety and keeping safe when sending an email.

Week Commencing 17/01/22

In maths this week we are learning how to recognise fractions and fraction of amounts.

This week in literacy we are going to be writing another diary entry and describing a setting.

For our Stone Age topic, we are going to be looking at artefacts from this time period and describing what this tells us about the Stone Age.

In Science we are going to be setting up a comparative test to see which magnet is the strongest.

PE this term will be on a Thursday and the children will be carrying on with their cricket lessons.

In RE the children will be learning more about Hinduism and looking at acts of kindness.

In maths this week we are going to be learning about division with remainders.

Week Commencing 10/01/22

This week in literacy we are going to be making predictions about our text ‘Varjak Paw’ and writing a diary entry in role.

For our Stone Age topic, the children are going to be hunter-gatherers and hunt for their food on the playground. Then we write a paragraph to explain what they had to do.

In Science we are going to be grouping materials by their magnetic properties.

PE this term will be on a Thursday and the children will be carrying on with their cricket lessons.

In RE the children will be learning more about Hinduism and why collecting ‘good Karma’ is important to them.

Week Commencing 04/01/22

Welcome back.

In maths this week we are going to be learning about multiplication and using formal method to multiply.

This week in literacy we will be introduced to our new core text: Varjak Paw. By looking at the front cover and reading the blurb, we will then make inference and predictions about the text.

Our new topic for the term is The Stone age and this week we will be placing events in chronological order.

In Science we are going to start our new topic ‘Forces and Magnets. We begin with an introduction to the topic, then learn about how different objects move on different surfaces.

In PE our new topic is ‘Fitness’. This week we will be learning about why fitness is important for physical and mental health.

In RE our religion for the term is Hinduism and we will begin by understanding the difference and similarities between Hinduism and Christianity.

Week commencing 06/12/21

In maths this week we are going to be reading, drawing, and plotting co-ordinates in the first quadrant.

This week in literacy we are going to have an opportunity to edit our stories from last week and then to publish them for our Christmas writing competition.

In Science we are going to be learning about ice and investigating if we can make it melt quicker or slower.

PE this week we will be playing mini games of Netball, focusing on all the skills we have learnt so far.

In RE will be focusing of the Christmas story.

Week commencing 29/11/21

This week we are starting the week investigating factors of numbers before moving onto parallel lines and perpendicular lines.

This week in literacy we are going to be writing an ending to a story, editing our own work, and writing our own fiction stories.

In Science we are going to be investigating what happens when a solid is heated.

This week in Geography, the children will be explaining why volcanoes and earthquakes happen in the same places.

PE we are continuing with learning Netball and this week will leaning how to shoot.

Week commencing 22.11.21

In maths this week we are learning to multiply mentally, compare statements and to solve multiplication problems

This week in literacy, we are going to be identifying features, story mapping and planning our own fiction stories.

In Science we are going to be investigating if you can make a gas from a solid.

This week in Geography, the children will continue to learn about earthquakes and why some cause more damage than others.

PE we are continuing with learning Netball and this week the children will learn about different positions required during a game.

Week commencing 15.11.21

In maths this week we are learning to count and divide in multiples of 8, 11 and 12. We will also be looking at multiplying any number by 10 and 100.

This week in literacy, we are going to be identifying the key features of fiction writing, describing a setting and describing a character in a story.

In Science we are going to be investigating if gas has weight and then will be writing our own conclusion.

This week in Geography, the children will learn about why New Zealand has many earthquakes in comparison to other countries.

PE we are continuing with learning Netball skills and the children will have an opportunity to apply these into a game situation.

Week commencing 08.11.21

In maths this week we are learning to count and divide in multiples of 3,4,6 and 9.

In literacy, we will be planning our non-chronological reports, checking that we have included all the key features and then writing our reports. Afterwards, the children will have the opportunity to edit their work.

In Science we are going to be setting up a fair test, to see which liquid travels the quickest down a gradient.

This week in Geography, the children will be observing and recording the distributions of earthquakes over the past 200 years in New Zealand.

PE we are continuing with learning Netball skills and the children will have an opportunity to apply these into a game situation.

Week commencing 01.11.21

Welcome back

In Maths this week we are continuing to use column method to add and subtract 3- and 4-digit numbers. Then, we will learn how to check our answers through using the inverse operation and estimating.

In literacy, we are continuing with our ‘Anglo-Saxon’ topic and will be writing our own non-chronological reports about this time. The children will be identifying the key features of non-chronological reports and then will be taking notes and researching the Anglo-Saxon period.

In Science we are going to be identifying different states of matter. The children will have the opportunity to investigate solid, liquids and gases.

This week in Geography, the children will be introduced to earthquakes, and they will be locating New Zealand on a map.
